“The Gardens” mission is two-fold:

To promote healthy lives: through education, prevention, intervention, compassion and understanding: To address the social ills of our community with a divers outlook, leaving no-one behind.

Purpose Statement: “To Promote Healthy Lives”

“The Gardens” approach is based on an empowerment model that

builds upon the assets of the families and the youth within the  community. A central tenet of “The Gardens” is the youth are partners in the creation, delivery, and evaluation of our services.  When youths’ capacities and strengths are the focus, rather than on their deficiencies, they are empowered to make dramatic changes in their lives and achieve their goals.

The services, programs and activities of “The Gardens” are dedicated to the memory of the founding “Monarchs” of our family; Mrs. Julia Birdsong-Cooper-Grandmother and Mrs. Elizabeth McKnight-King – Mother, who taught our family, the importance of giving back, showing compassion, caring and love of others, by giving back.
